Chronicles of Her

madisonkmonte

To start off, I really do love her blog and everything she puts on it.

Chronicles of Her is run by Carmen Hamilton and based in Australia. Her blog consists of fashion advice, trends to look out for, a shop page, and an editor's blog. The blog is very personalized yet professional and displays an aesthetic that is appealing to a wide audience.

When you search her blog, this is the first thing you see on a computer. Clearly, it is very simple and understated but immediately grabs the reader's attention and encourages them to take a look at this recent article.

I think one of the coolest aspects of her blog is the Street 365 page, which highlights different influencers, bloggers, and fashion gurus around the world. It gives a glimpse into their life while providing fashion advice, tips, and tricks. There are many elements to shine a light on in this blog. The first is, she has links to many other websites, the store in her blog, social media, and highlighted people's socials. At the bottom of each post, she was an Up Next button leading to the next post encouraging readers to stay on the page. Lastly, there is a space at the bottom to sign up for email newsletters or participate in discussions about the post.

A few critiques:

  • As much as large companies try, their blogs can seem very formal and lack the sense of personality and character that many consumers long for.

  • As for Chronicles of Her, as her page has grown she has begun to lack that originality and personality her early readers enjoy because it is clear that she has many writers and it is a business and not a hobby

In an interview with Carmen, she was asked about when she decided to create and launch Chronicles of Her?

Carmen answered,

"When I first launched my personal blog back in 2011. I never thought it would end up being my career...I wanted to create a place for that to live online, where women could come and be inspired by others and discover new brands, places to shop and styling tips."

Diving into mass communication and convergence and analyzing her blog through the lens gives insight into interpersonal communication (communication between two or more individuals, often in a small group, although it can involve communication between a live speaker and an audience). (Pavlik & Mcintosh, 2020)

Blogs allow for immediate feedback and discussion from readers, but it is difficult to define "mass" when it comes to blogs because there are many with small dedicated followings or large ones with an audience less loyal. (Pavlik & Mcintosh, 2020)

Convergence is the "coming together of computing, telecommunications, and media in a digital environment" (Pavlik & Mcintosh, 2020).

Heading back into Carmen's Chronicles of Her, in the beginning, her blog was simply just a website she created to express her ideas and fashion choices, but now everything has converged from the blog to social media and a shop on the page. She has brought everything together into one and created a very popular multi-dimensional platform that envelops the ideas of interpersonal communication and convergence.

In conclusion, blogging is a very popular and effective form of communication used by many individuals and businesses. It will remain this way long into the future, and blogs like Chronicle of Her will continue to inspire and excite readers around the world.
