We all are aware of what a blog is, so there is no need to give the Merriam-Webster definition, but there are many aspects of blogging that are not apparent to the naked eye.
Blogs range in topics, there are millions out there that target different niches, and successful bloggers have developed an enticing and readable niche for millions of viewers. From fashion to video games, to photography and nature, the opportunities are endless when it comes to original ideas. Looking at a HuffPost.com article there are many benefits from blogging, a few include: expressing yourself and sharing your passions, making a difference, sharing your knowledge, building your professional network, and becoming an authority in your industry.
A few questions about blogging that need to be addressed:
Is blogging still effective in 2021?
Yes, it totally is! According to a report from Demand Metric, 90% of businesses still use content marketing and 92% rely on blogging as their primary form of content.
2. How did blogging develop through the age of the internet and what came before?
Blogging has been a huge part of the Internet over the past few decades and has become very influential among the public and has developed a significant amount of readership.
A quote from one of the readings states,
" Blogs and social publishing and communication forms that have developed on the web are part of this larger picture of communication and publishing through the ages... Blogs can be seen as belonging to the post-Gutenberg era, a time after the dominance of print in mass media."
3. Can people even make money off of blogging?
Depending on the success of a blog, one can make a significant amount of money.
Money can be made through Ads, Sponsors, & Affiliate Links.
Ads: Generally, a blogger can make anywhere from $3 to $25 per 1000 page views, and it can be higher depending on the niche and RPMs.
Sponsored Posts: This is another way to make money when it comes to blogging. A blogger can make a sponsored post and charge a company for doing a review of the product or service.
Affiliate Links: Lastly, this popular way allows viewers to click on links to specific products highlighted on the blog post. A blogger will get a small commission if someone clicks the link and purchases the product.
In this project, I will be critiquing and highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of one of my favorite fashion blogs, Chronicles of Her, in the next post.
