Fashion week looked a bit different this year with the global pandemic, but that did not stop fashion houses from ruling the runway. From Valentino to Chanel, Paris was cloaked head-to-toe in haute couture. This week straddled the worlds of digital and physical with the introduction of digital guests, influencers, and celebrities who were able to enjoy the show from their home.

Chanel used many social platforms to post videos and photos of their show, and they captured the most attention during this week. The technology company used artificial intelligence to analyze 60,000 Instagram posts between September 12th and October 6th to report on the mentions and posts for the spring 2021 collection. With Chanel’s 41.7 million followers, they reached a wide audience and gave an inside look on the week, and widened the range of consumers and viewers to not only people with significant amounts of money. Typically, only people of high wealth can afford brands like Chanel, but with their freedom of censorship, they make all people believe that they could one day have pieces from their brand. Comparing Chanel’s presence to many other luxury brands, they lead in social media presence, but that did not stop other brands from utilizing their platforms and allowed consumers to feel like they have a front row seat to Fashion Week.

The show took place at the Grand Palais was directed as a black-and-white French New Wave Cinema. Models dressed in the collection, acted out cinematic troupes, such as sitting on a bed, talking on the phone of looking out the window. This show used elements of social media and video production to show the world the beauty of the designs and Chanel's brand. All my life, I have loved Chanel and its timeless beauty, with their constant adaptations of beautiful fabrics and styles, they are effortlessly one of the greatest luxury brands. Because of their many decades of beautiful clothing and extravagant fashion shows, they have inspired me to enter the world of fashion and become an individual that contributes to their amazing work and designs. If possible, being part of a team that is part of social media, would be an excellent opportunity. With the changing of the internet and social media, I think with the use of my degree I could contribute immensely. Chanel, among many other brands, has ruled the runway and continues to inspire young and old consumers to love their brand and appreciate the beauty of their designs.
